In 2004, only 8% of the energy produced in Spain came from renewable sources. By 2020, a decade and a half later, the percentage had risen to 44%. Such a rapid transition has only been possible thanks to a radical transformation of the energy system, one in which wind, with 20% of the total produced last year, plays a leading role. Despite the great potential of photovoltaics, it is wind power that has capitalised on the leap towards renewables.
