The Official Ñ Section of the 33rd SUNCINE presents eight feature films produced in Spain. Created to support, recognise and raise the profile of environmental cinema made in the country, the section celebrates filmmakers who use documentary storytelling to explore today’s major ecological and social challenges.
The eight films offer a wide-ranging perspective on the relationship between people and the planet, addressing the water crisis, plastic pollution, wildfires, oil exploitation in the Arctic, the persecution of environmental defenders, the conservation of endangered species and the impact of climate change on children. Their stories travel from Spain’s forests, rivers and coastlines to Alaska, Antarctica, Latin America, Bangladesh and Chad, demonstrating the ability of Spanish-produced cinema to approach global issues through distinctive and locally rooted perspectives.
Through this selection, SUNCINE reaffirms its commitment to a bold, diverse and essential body of filmmaking—one capable of documenting the planet’s transformations, raising awareness and helping to build a more critical and engaged environmental culture.
