Scott Cleverdon and Assumpta Serna —teachers, actors, screenwriters, and directors with experience in over 200 films and 30 television series— will open a talk at the University of Barcelona on November 10, dedicated to reflecting on ethics in the audiovisual industry and its connection with sustainability.
Ethics is not usually an attractive word, nor does it make headlines. Yet everything that goes against it leaves deep marks: when ethics fails, the consequences affect people, the audience, and the industry itself. The lack of ethics normalizes abuse, violence, and prejudice, eroding the values that give meaning to art and communication.
A cinema with soul is also a sustainable cinema: one made with awareness, caring not only for the natural environment but also for the people and human relationships that make it possible.
It is a cinema committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its core —promoting equality, justice, education, decent work, and peace— and one that understands that ethics is the foundation of sustainability. Because without ethics, there is no respect; without respect, there is no equity; and without equity, there can be no sustainable future.
Every decision in an audiovisual production —from the script to distribution— can help build a fairer, more inclusive, and more responsible industry.
This gathering will explore how ethical principles can be integrated into daily professional practice.
We invite all participants to reflect and take an active part in this cultural shift: to identify ethical challenges and collectively find solutions that strengthen trust, collaboration, and collective well-being.
During the session, the latest update of the Audiovisual Code of Good Practices (CBPA) will be presented, currently under review by the Carlos III University (FGPB) and the Ethics Commission of Familia de Cine (FDC).
Join us to continue telling stories with soul—stories that inspire, transform, and contribute to a more human, ethical, and sustainable audiovisual world.
